Week 2 review - Mono and is it catching
Week 2 started on Thursday around the time I opened my third can with the news that Sam Darnold was out of MNF with an illness that is best described as a 'teenage community kissing disease'. The banter levels from this story may go from high to Scottish football if news breaks of a team mate with the same illness. Despite my Scottish football pun originally being planned as a one article joke the NFL seems determined to roll with it. In the AB stakes, the worrying sex pest developments are threatening to derail the promising career of his own cousin 'Hollywood' Brown. The rookie receiver has been revealed to be a previously unnamed witness to an alleged assault by his troubled cousin.
The Thursday night match up was a Bucs - Panthers affair that never really got going. Both QB's performed reasonably but neither look like living up to their off season hype, more worryingly for the Panthers and Lewis was the clunker posted by CMC.
On Sunday I was somewhere around Carlisle when the early window of games kicked off, by this time I was nearly out of cans. a quick stop at the Co-Op between Central and Queen Street for a bag refresh meant I was settling down on the couch just as the second round of action got under way.
This round of match ups never really seemed to get going, Mahomes is now so far ahead of the rest of the league he only needs to do 15 minutes work to put a game to bed. An injury to Drew Brees left the Saints high and dry against the Rams while Mitch Trubisky and Case Keenum were hell bent on being worse than each other.
On Monday night as suspected the Browns got it together and rolled over a Jets team that has an injury list as long as its starting roster. a long season awaits in New York.
In the Cadle Bowl Ryan stumbled to a week 2 defeat against Smithy. While Mahomes got it done, he did it as mentioned in one quarter of football, this meant that Ryans superstar receiver, the lizard king Watkins never got going, coupled with a knock to Conner this match up was done. Smithy used his RB advantage to push his team to a 100 point score and the W.
Next up was Raeanne versus Cregles and the best thing that can be said about Craigs team is that it is definitely not snowflake! Craigs woes are all over his roster, he still needs to sort his QB, his Running Backs are letting him down badly and his Receiving Corp are an injured wasteland. Cregles needs to make moves and fast before he finds himself marooned at the bottom of the table with nothing left to do but try and play spoiler.
SJ1 picked up the W in his tilt with wee Dave. Daves romantic trip to Paris may have taken his eye off the ball and resulted in a goose egg on his roster from Jeffrey. as consolation Ryan has promised to take him back to Paris soon for another romantic rendezvous now that they are both residents of the big smoke.
The weeks big grudge match never really happened, Chris was the weeks big scorer and Lewis never really looked like he was competing, this coupled with Lewis apparently being all kinds of high end drunk on Saturday meant there was less abuse and slander than we're used to in this fixture.
In my own tilt I got the edge over Stew thanks to another solid display from my Ravens coupled with some solid numbers from my WR's. OBJ put the icing on the cake Monday night to make the win seem more comfortable than it perhaps was. Stew meanwhile may need to consider relying less on the Rams than he has been if he wants to develop any form.
All of this leaves us with Stew and Cregles in danger of losing touch with the pack while last years early season powerhouse Raeanne takes a lead with Chris. The rest of us still need to develop some consistency.
